WORKSHOP ONE: DRIVER DIAGRAMS TO ADDRESS ISSUES RELATED TO PATIENT CARE

Workshop Summary: Driver Diagrams (DDs) are a contemporary tool used to display all of the workings of a project on one page. This is a contemporary tool which is easy to use and for staff to follow.

Come along with a problem related to the patient journey and DD’s can help you with undertaking a thorough diagnosis of what the problem is, as well as identifying the issues that are contributing to the problem. Once that information is available then staff are able to generate possible solutions and prioritise which ones to tackle first. Tools and resources are provided for participants to take with them.

Participants are asked to come along with a patient related problem (falls, infections, failure to attend clinics etc) and at least one of the problems will be worked through using the methodology to enable participants to become familiar with the tools.

At the end of the workshop participants should be able to demonstrate how to use some of the tools.

WORKSHOP TWO: WRITING FOR PUBLICATION

Workshop Summary: Clinicians and health services claim to base their activities and plan their expenditure on good evidence and the key source of such evidence is the research literature.

Often such evidence is developed in communities and contexts that are very different from the rural and remote communities represented at this conference.

It is important that rural health care is represented in this literature and that rural clinicians and researchers understand the publication process and are able to submit their research and publish successfully.

This workshop will describe the journal publication process and assist participants to increase the probability that their research will be published, minimising unnecessary frustration on the way.

This is a workshop for those who are interested in and plan to submit their work to academic journals.

WORKSHOP THREE: NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME UPDATE

Workshop Summary: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing individualised support for people with disability, their families and carers.

From 1 July 2017, the NDIS became available state-wide for people currently receiving supports through New South Wales Government specialist disability services.

This interactive workshop will bring together facilitators from the NSW Ministry of Health and NDIS providers to discuss the progress, challenges, lessons learned and planning for rural and regional disability services in NSW.

WORKSHOP FOUR: FROM TWITTER TO A JOURNAL ARTICLE

Workshop Summary: From social media to publication of a peer-reviewed journal article, there are many options for sharing results of work or research projects. In this workshop, participants will consider how to present their work to professional communities.

Audience, presentation and writing styles will be discussed. Participants will workshop communication strategies and techniques on examples of their projects.

Publication processes will be considered to help participants in getting their work published in professional and academic journals.

WORKSHOP FIVE: WAGGA WAGGA RURAL REFERRAL HOSPITAL TOUR
